I don't know much about the knack. you can read about them here. understandably "my sharona" was a #1 hit in america, and became the number one song of 1979. i wasn't really aware of it until a saw and became obsessed with the 1994 film "reality bites". the song is synonymous with the film for me and anything that makes me think of winona ryder is fine by me.
that is not the only reason i love it though. it is classic rock teamed with pop sensibilities and punk pretensions played so perfectly by this group of seriously talented musicians. in fact if "my sharona" was any tighter you would be able to see her camel toe through her leggings. the insatiable rhythm keeps you hooked and locked into a ridiculously addictive groove. just when you thought it couldn't get any better the arrival of the bridge/middle eight/solo section whacks you in the face like a warm and friendly breast.
so with that in mind, my song du jour is "my sharona" from the album "get the knack". the knack, a band who certainly had it.
