song du jour 03/12/10

another great find from la blogoteque. this is john grant the former frontman of the czars an extremely talented guy and not just musically either (he is a gifted linguist, speaking german and spanish as well as russian). this guy's voice is superb. i do love a good baritone. heartfelt, yet powerful. it's nice to hear some simple piano led music that isn't just the opening of some over blown rock opera. truely art, for art's sake.

i really dig this video too. john sat playing piano in a random parisian cafe. gotta love the way that no one is paying any attention to him, like they get this shit everyday! these parisians are too cool for school. favourite moment? when it zooms out and he just looks like a tramp! i'm half expecting to see him get kicked out any second. in fact that is how it should have ended; with the owner turning up and turfing him out onto the pavement...

so with that in mind my song du jour is the live version of "where dreams go to die" from la blogoteque(check out the version on the album "queen of denmark" for a different, but no less awesome, 70s vibe)
